Slammers' new mom and dad want to spay Slammer as soon as possible as they are not into the heat cycles and they agreed to a second and final litter before she was spayed. The timing worked out that now is a good time.
Slammer started about 12:30 a.m. and was done by 3:00 a.m. The ultrasound showed 3 pups and after the 3rd pup she didn't feel done so we waited. The last puppy was of good size and was having a bit of a rough time making it out. We have never had one "get stuck" before. She pushed and we could feel it was close but nothing. We whisked Slammer out of the whelping box and walked her around for a minute and then finally got enough of the pup out to pull during her contractions. It was blue and not breathing and already out of the sac. Start to finish that all took about 3 minutes but it seemed like forever!! After a little brisk rubbing and getting goo out of her mouth she was fat, happy and nursing in seconds flat!!!
All four pups and Slammer are doing great!! And the best part is they are ALL girls..... We both triple checked :)
Girls are healthy strong pups weighing 7 3/8 oz to 5 1/4 oz and were nursing within seconds!!!!
Dawn and Sheila came out early for their seminar and Dawn trialed Puzzle and Breezer at 2 local USDAA Trials. That was fun!!! They picked up 4 Steeplechase Q's and 1 Grand Prix Q. it was so much fun to trial together!! Dawn Weaver will be back April 13-14 for another seminar in Murrieta, CA.
We have working spots and unlimited auditing spots available. One of the things people love about her seminars is that even the auditors get TONS of information. We allow auditors to bring their dog and work what they are learning after sessions and in between sessions. The feed back from both working spot and auditors has been fabulous!!! People who have audited this seminar and that say they usually don't get much out of auditing and would rather have a working spot say that they were very happy that they audited and were very pleased.
The seminar went very well and we had a nice turn out and got lots of great feedback from both working spot participants and auditors.
I am one of the luckiest agility girls in the world as I am able to train with and learn from one of the most talented and amazing trainers/handlers in the entire world while bringing Dawn here to the USA for her seminars. Dawn has helped me with my training and handling and has filled a gap in my training which makes me a better trainer and handler for my dogs.
Working Masher's son Stunner in Dawns Foundation Skills seminar.
One of the cool things about having guests from another country is showing them them some of our finer things :) They do have KFC in England but they don't have mashed potatos and gravy on the menu !
So this was not our weekend at the AKC Invitational... Well at least not with Mushy :)
We had an oopsie in round two and I touched Masher .... I didn't even realize it until later. Masher ran clean, fast and hard the rest of the rounds. Hopefully we get another chance at this in the future.
Ella on the other hand had 4 clear rounds and we made it into the finals. That pretty much blew my mind. It was pretty stressful as she has been known to fly off her contacts, pop out of the weaves and we just got her teeter back not to long ago. She ran her heart out for me and she was such a good girl!!! 2011 was an eventful year for Miss Ella, Rattlesnake bite, MACH and finals at the Invitational!!!
Ella was the #1 Dalmatian and #2 in the Non-Sporting Group!!!!
Action Dog Sports is proud to sponsor a very special seminar given by Dawn Weaver from the UK!!!

A little bit about Dawn Weaver:
Dawn Weaver is a top handler, trainer and judge in Britain with over 20 years experience. She believes in giving her dogs early and reliable information that not only guarantees her dogs can run with confidence and speed around the course but will also ensure that the physical impact on her dogs while turning is kept to a minimum. The dogs love knowing their next direction on a course so that they can continue driving at maximum speed, not waiting for the next piece of information from the handler. She has trained many different breeds and sizes of dogs so is experienced on the subject of motivation. She does not feel that 'one size fits all' with regard to training methods or that everyone needs to do things the same way. All dogs and handlers are different and will often need different handling strategies on any given sequence. Dawn has relied on her dogs to teach her the best possible way to handle them rather than imposing her own theories on them. Every dog she has trained has got to the very top of the sport, including a poodle, papillons and various crossbreeds. She believes this is because she has listened to her dogs and handles them in a way that allows them to reach their maximum potential. This means they can run with certain knowledge and total freedom'.
